Monika and her family live in the mountains of South Kivu in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Monika shares her journey – before and after partnering with Plant With Purpose, a nonprofit focused on sustainable solutions for extreme rural poverty.
Project objective
Plant With Purpose's main challenge is that their work is complex and sometimes difficult to explain. They use environmental restoration as a tool for helping to eradicate rural poverty. This works, but it isn't intuitive for the average donor. They hired me to help show the impact in a way that builds a human connection.
The video's objective was to allow a program participant to explain why the organization's work is effective in their own words. My goal was to do this in a way that bridged the enormous cultural gap between an American audience and a family in a remote part of central Africa.
Impact
Plant With Purpose says that this was the most valuable video that they have produced. It premiered at the Planting Hope Gala, which broke records for the amount raised at an event. The Plant With Purpose team also says that it was instrumental in leveraging at least one million dollar gift and is still used by the fundraising team on a regular basis.
